Make Money Buying from eBay

One of the most common questions asked on the internet must be how to make money buying from ebay. Ebay which is a gigantic marketplace attracts many buyers and sellers and where there are buyers and sellers, the element of profit rules. In fact the game could not be simpler, buy low and sell high. But is it that simple?  

The theory is simple but in practice this might not be as easy as it sounds. What you might think was a good deal usually turns out to be a bad one a few hours later on. You thought you bought cheap only to find that someone is selling on eBay cheaper than the price you bought. 

I am listing some points that should help you to make money on eBay by avoiding buying mistakes. I think it is best to heed them so you do not end up doing the costly mistakes I did. Here are some points to keep in mind:

• I don’t buy any more stuff for retail from eBay. This means I don’t buy any stuff to resell on ebay. The reason is that I would not know how many times this item has changed hands. And this means that there is a potential for mark-ups. Even though it looks cheap I prefer to buy from elsewhere. What I do is buy for my personal use only.
  
  
• The obvious thing everyone should do: check inside ebay for similar goods and see their prices. See the different specifications. Sometimes colour or wrapping is a significant difference. If you can think of reasons why you would not buy one form the other then don’t buy for resale. Also look at the small details. For example, a slightly smaller USB pendrive might be costlier – is it really worth paying a few more bucks just because the USB pendrive is tightly packed in a casing 5 mm smaller?
  
  
• Check the demand for that product. Buying a product which is in low demand, even though attractively priced, means you are sitting on slow moving stock. Slow moving goods usually soon turn into obsolete goods, especially if they are technological products. Go to Google Trends and other sites that show trends to see if the demand is declining. Even better, check out the manufacturer’s website to see if a new similar product is about to be launched. If a new product is in the pipeline, then cancel buying as no one likes buying old products.
   
• See what other people are saying about the product you think will be good profit generator. Check out review sites like Amazon. Check the ratings and see what people like and don’t like about the product. This will give you an indication of potential refunds and complaints by customers that might harm your seller’s reputation.
